Dr. Badran is a highly diverse experienced research scientist, blue economy manager, community and wide stakeholder’s engagement advocate and technical expert. He holds a BSc. degree in chemistry from Yarmouk University, Jordan. MSc. and PhD. degrees in Coastal and Marine Environmental Management from the University of Wales, Bangor, UK.
He has ample work experience in industrial technical field, academia mainly in higher education and research, administration and in marine and coastal management. He effectively participated in numerous national, regional and international projects, cruises, workshops and conferences.
Dr. Badran is highly skillful in preparing project proposals and leading rigorous programs of supported projects. He coordinated several National, Regional and International projects. Some of these are: “The Red Sea Program”; Development of Resource Management Oriented Research and Novel Monitoring”; “Environmental Assimilative Capacity of Coastal Habitats and Development of Green Mari-culture of High Revenue Low Environmental Burden”; “Societal Security and Environmental Impact Concerning Aquaculture in the Red Sea”; “GloBallast Partnerships; IMO”; “Strategies for Reduction of Unintentional Production of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Coastal Cities of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden; "Wastewater Recycling and Renewable Water Resources in Coastal Cities of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden”; “Strategic Ecosystem-based Management of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden”; and “Mediterranean Forum for Applied Ecosystem-based Management ”MED4EBM)”.
Dr. Badran designed and taught in several target-oriented teaching and training courses in environmental sciences, climate change impacts and vocational environmental fields. Some of these are: “Biogeochemistry of Enclosed Seas in Subtropical Regions”; Human Health and Coastal and Marine Environment”; “Economic Valuation of Coastal and Marine Resources” and “Ecotourism Management”. He also participated in supervising several Jordanian and International postgraduate students. He has effectively participated in establishing Aqaba Marine Park and the Jordanian National Monitoring Program of the Marine and Coastal Environment and supported environmental monitoring programs around the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The focus of these initiatives has always been effective natural ecosystems management and understanding the interaction between humans and natural resources, pollution control “sources and fates”, nutrient transport and regeneration in relation to coral reefs, and socioeconomic dimensions of coastal development.
He Joined the Regional Organization for Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden “PERSGA” as Director of Projects Management, Scientific Research and Monitoring during the period 2007-2017. Here he scored several achievements and developed good work connections with stakeholders in the Partner Countries which included Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen; and with international organizations, namely IMO, the World Bank, UNEP, UNIDO, and UNDP.
During the period 2018 – 2022, Dr. Badran conducted several Environmental and Socioeconomic Impact Assessment studies “ESIA”, primarily being the Coastal and Marine Environment Expert of Aqaba Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance ESIA 2020-2022. He joined UNDP Jordan in 2021 as Project Coordinator of the EU supported Multinational Project Mediterranean Forum for Applied Ecosystem Based Management. The Project joined Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia and Italy. He has recently developed several National and Regional Project Documents for UNDP Jordan and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority “ASEZA” focusing on mainstream environmental and climate change considerations in development and blue economy. Namely the GFCR Gulf of Aqaba Coral Reef Resilience Program, which is based in Jordan with ambition for broader regional collaboration, EU support to Aqaba Science Park Scientific Research and Development Program, and Canadian support (GAC) for “Enhancing Inclusive Coastal Ecosystem Biodiversity and Resilience in the Gulf of Aqaba”.
