EDUCATION

  • Ph.D. in Geography – Environmental Management and Regional Planning (Specialization: Integrated Coastal Zone Management – ICZM) Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon | Oct 2018 – May, 2023.
  • M.Sc. in Physical Geography – Thesis focused on Marine Studies, Lebanese University, Dekwaneh, Lebanon | Enrolled: Oct 2014 – Graduated: Feb 2016

WORK AND EXPERIENCES

1) Ecosystem-Based Management (EBM) Expert – EcoPeace Project: Revitalizing Tyre Coast Nature Reserve through Conservation, Community Empowerment, and Sustainable Blue Tourism (IUCN, Blue Tourism Initiatives) (March 2025 –October 2025).

  • Evaluated and analyzed the environmental, social, and economic impacts of war and climate change on Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (TCNR) to inform sustainable tourism and conservation strategies.
  • Designed and administered socio-economic questionnaires targeting fishers, farmers, and tourism service operators (beach tents, diving centers, kayaking, and pedalo services) to assess pre- and post-war conditions (2023 vs. 2025).
  • Conducted environmental assessments using remote sensing techniques:

 Vegetation change analysis with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)

 Burned area detection with Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR)

 Shoreline change (erosion/accretion) analysis.

  • Integrated environmental data collected by other experts on marine turtles and water quality.
  • All collected data were analyzed using Ecosystem-Based Management principles to assess the impacts of multiple factors, including war, climate change, and human activities, on Tyre Coast Nature Reserve.

2) Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Expert – Mediterranean Forum for Applied Ecosystem-Based Management (MED4EBM) (ENI CBCMED / Interreg NEXT Med, Aug–Nov 2023)

  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Conducted workshops and interviews with local communities, fishers, farmers, and tourism operators to gather local knowledge, validate ecosystem components, and incorporate socio-economic perspectives.
  • Data Management: All collected data were entered into Microsoft Excel and managed using SQL Server Management Studio, organized into five main components: socio- economic aspects, biophysical systems, animal species, plant species, and coastal infrastructure. Indicators included fish abundance, biomass, and diversity; water and soil quality; marine and terrestrial reptiles; invasive and endemic plant species; and socio- economic activities related to local communities, tourism, and agriculture.
  • Uploaded structured datasets to the Integrated Spatial Planning (ISP) software, configuring indicators, maps, and charts for spatial and temporal visualization.
  • Analyzed interactions between human pressures, climate change, and ecosystem processes to inform evidence-based environmental management strategies.
  • Developed priority action plans and established monitoring protocols to support sustainability and strengthen synergies between Ecosystem-Based Management and Integrated Coastal Zone Management objectives at TCNR.
